[itdiscuss] Church Plant Website

I have been using Joomla to do something similar. I created a website for a
church plant using Joomla 1.54 after reading a Joomla 1.0 book, and spending
some time trial and error. Now I am creating our main site using Joomla,
because we are not happy with our web hosting company and the plain site
they have provided us. Current project with Joomla -
(fumc.gwinnettcomputerdoctor.com). I can recommend Joomla for CMS, and
hostmonster for site host, Joomla, MySQL, & free email. If you need help or
have questions, call me.

I am helping with a church plant and am looking for an affordable and easy
to use solution for a simple, static (for now) website. I am not a web
developer and thought that I would utilize iWeb for the design but would
like to have a unique web address rather than just utilizing a .Mac (now
MobileMe) account for hosting. Does anyone have any experience with this?
I have already purchased a domain (both .com and .org) and need to find a
hosting company that I am able to upload pages from iWeb with.
Also, if this just doesn't work well and you know a better solution, I am
open to other suggestions and have access to both mac and windows platforms.
I just have a bit of experience with iWeb so am leaning this way if I can
make it work.
Thanks for the help.
Adam

Wordpress is probably going to be the easiest platform for what you want
to do. Another good option would be Google Apps and the Google Pages
function.

You can also set up forwarding with your domain to a mobile me set. You can
either mask the forwarded address or not (I don't, but it's just my personal
site). If you look at my blog (http://idolan.com) all of the content is
created with iWeb. (No, I'm not interested in hearing the reasons my site
isn't very good - I'm just offering Adam another possibility. iWeb really is
a good easy solution.)
If you want something that's platform independent & comfortable with FTP,
Sea Monkey is a reasonably good free web development platform. I think it
replaced Netscape Composer, & I think it can be found on the Mozilla site.
Best,
Richard (who tries to know as little about these things as possible!)

I have been using 1and1 as a host for several years now. They are
cheap, reliable, and I have never had a problem with them.
For a good CMS, I have been using Joomla <joomla.org> (by recommendation
from someone in this group) and have loved it! The only downside to an
application like Joomla is that it can be overwhelming if you are
looking for a simpler solution - it is very robust.
For simple, I like Microsoft's Office Live <officelive.com>. For a
simple and elegant solution, this one fits the bill. Easy to manage,
but at the cost of fewer capabilities.
