[itdiscuss] Need some help on lan to lan question

Depends on what you need it to do. You will need to create a port forwarding rule for the specific type of connection you need. For example, if you need SMTP to go through, then it would be tcp port 25. If you are trying to do file sharing or something like that, it can be a little more difficult to do since there will be more than one port needed. If you can tell us what specifically you are trying to access, then someone can probably tell you what port is needed.

Thank you for the quick reply Kevin. We just need one PC at location B to access one device in location A. Do you know what the firewall rule would be?

If you want to be able to connect from many devices at one location to a single device at the other location, you can do that with a firewall rule, assuming it is using a single port or range of ports that you can open. But if you want to be able to connect from many devices at one location to many devices at the other, you will need to set up a VPN between your 2 firewalls. That will allow you to route between the two networks as if you had a dedicated link between them. I don't know anything about those devices, though, so I don't know for sure that they support VPN tunnels.

I have a lan in location A with a Netgear FVS318 router/firewall, and a lan at location B with a Netgear WGT624 wireless router/firewall at the second site.
I can manage the routers from either site without a problem. I want to be able to access a device in location A from the lan at location B. Both sites have dedicated IP addresses. I don't know if I need a VPN or just to open something on the firewall. I have done as much research as I can but I can't seem to figure out how to make this happen. Is there someone out there that could tell me what the magic formula is?
