[itdiscuss] Apple Reports Fourth Quarter Results

You bring up an interesting question somewhat related to my other posting on Mac Automations. You mention the ease of use in maintaining the performance and reliability of your Mac systems over your Windows computers. What tools do you use in diagnosing and troubleshooting Mac problems?

On the Windows side of things, there are countless tools available for identifying performance and reliability issues on a Windows system. As I have explored recommended utilities on Apple’s site, most of the tools available on the Mac are rather superficial. Most provide basic diagnostic information such as “yes the network port is working”, or “yes the SMART status is good”; but I have yet to discover anything more substantial. I find myself operating in a Unix terminal prompt to solve many issues; but would love to have access to something more user friendly but detailed in its analysis. Any suggestions?

The point is that Apple as a company is doing well even in this difficult economy. Apple systems are fast, high performance, and reliable, unlike many Windows systems I've had to maintain. The Apple product (MacBookPro Laptop, MacPro Workstation, iMac Home System, and iPhone Mobile Platform) are superior to Windows in almost every way, and should be seriously considered at your next purchase opportunity. Apple especially excels in the creative media area: web, audio, video, photography, print, and graphic art.

Macs cost more, but they are worth the investment in your organization since they are higher quality systems, and yield higher levels of productivity.

Apple shipped 2,611,000 Macintosh® computers during the quarter,
representing 21 percent unit growth and 17 percent revenue growth over
the year-ago quarter. The Company sold 11,052,000 iPods during the
quarter, representing eight percent unit growth and three percent
revenue growth over the year-ago quarter. Quarterly iPhone units sold
were 6,892,000 compared to 1,119,000 in the year-ago-quarter.

“Apple just reported one of the best quarters in its history, with a
spectacular performance by the iPhone—we sold more phones than RIM,”
said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “We don’t yet know how this economic
downturn will affect Apple. But we’re armed with the strongest product
line in our history, the most talented employees and the best
customers in our industry. And $25 billion of cash safely in the bank
with zero debt.”
