[itdiscuss] Exchange on ESX

MTW has been running Exchange on an ESX VM for several years. We have a single install (everything on one box) with somewhere around 230 mailboxes. I think the important thing is to use the matrix Microsoft provides with regards to sizing a server. I think that should work fine for a virtual server too.

Ours is configured with 4 processors and 8 gig of RAM. A bit of overkill but better safe than sorry!

Overall, the install seems to be happy as a clam.

I know this has been discussed before but it has been awhile and there is news now that Microsoft is supporting MS Applications on VMWare ESX 3.5U2.

For those of you that are using Exchange 2007 on ESX, are you happy with it? How did you break out your roles? Along with that, how many mailboxes?

I am just getting ready to install ESX at my church, (volunteer IT) but am also contemplating whether to do it at my regular job which is an org of about 600 mailboxes.

Thanks,
