You are correct. It has been so long since I set it up that I forgot
that what you do is setup OpenDNS IPs as the forwarding IPs in Windows
DNS server.

But if you set the workstations to use OpenDNS for their DNS they will
have major trouble if they are joined to a domain and need access to
domain resources. That would still allow them to manually set DNS to
bypass it as well. I would suggest setting it on the firewall or as a
forwarder on the Windows DC's that way it uses OpenDNS regardless of
what they use.

I would still use a firewall that would block dns queries from anything
except DC's and devices that need to do queries that way no one can
bypass it.

What you do to set it up is to set your DHCP server to set the
workstation IPs for their DNS. So, at home I set the router so it
issues a static DNS rather than dynamic. Actually, at home I also set
the DNS for the router to be OpenDNS's IP. If you don't have a static
IP for your network, then you setup dynamic DNS using their service.

If you go to their website they have instructions on setting up several
different routers. A friend of mine told me about OpenDNS. We actually
setup our Church with the same thing.

I think I will try it at home. Did you use it for your router? Can you
give me the quick and dirty on how it works? I am totally blown away by
all the folks who said they use it! And I have never heard of it!

Ditto on opendns ... been using it over a year ... free is great! Not as
granular as other solutions though, but fits our needs currently.

For free we love using OpenDNS. It does what we want it to and works
well. The price is right, too. :-)

Folks,
It is time for our Content Filtering renewal. I am looking into various
options, since prices have gone up on our current subscription
(SonicWall). What do you use? What do you like/dislike about it?

Is anyone using the Barracuda Content Filter? Websense (Express)?

I want to accomplish two things:

*	Keep things secure for our elementary school
*	Avoid having a proxy server
