In ipconfig /all, are they showing the correct DHCP server?
I have seen in the past where somehow or other a firewall, wireless
router, etc either gets added to the network by a well-intentioned but
poorly informed user, or somehow modified or goes back to a factory
default setting with DHCP server turned on. Sometimes the workstation
determines that it is getting DHCP from a bad source, so it goes back to
get an IP from the authorized DHCP server but it doesn't update the DNS
server list with the info from the authorized DHCP server. You end up
with a working IP address, but bad DNS servers.

Subject: [itdiscuss] DNS Issue
On Monday afternoon a number of my DHCP clients started losing their
connection to the servers on our second campus. We have a mapped "I"
drive for a shared resource on our Windgate campus. The first computer
I checked would not map the "I" drive when the user logged into the
domain. She was unable to even browse to the server shares. I ran
IPCONFIG and found that the ip addresses for our internal DNS servers
had been replaced by the ip addresses of our external servers provided
by out ISP. This was the situation on every problem client but not
everyone has been affected. I have a workaround but am more interested
in finding the reason for problem as well as a permanent solution. We
have been using this configuration since January 2003.
