I haven't used Chronoforms but I absolutely love the BreezingForms extension for Joomla. It allows easy creation of multi page forms including file uploads, captcha integration, and nice themes. You can build a very nice form with no programming or CSS work at all. There's a good overview on their web site along with a video tutorial of a multipage form. The developer, Markus is very responsive and the module is cheap... only $40 including a year of support for unlimited sites/forms/submissions.

There is a Component for Joomla called Chronoforms that will work for this
process. You would definitely need to make a two part form, the first part
being a registration submission, and the second being the recommendation
email letter that would use emails entered by the student to send out the
emails for the recommendations. Then you would need to create an online form
(linked to from the email sent) for the recommender to submit his/her
recommendation and/or upload a file. Chronoforms has an additional component
called Chronoconnect that displays information contained in a database,
allowing data to be filtered before displaying. 
This is quite a process. Hope you have some time to get this done..

Hello all,

   We are wanting to take our Bible summer camp application process
online. Using something like SharePoint forms or some form-based
application from Joomla would be easy to set up overall. However, the
applicants to this particular summer camp requires recommendation
letters from the applicant's parents or pastor, etc. 

 

We'd like a student to come to our application system and create a
user-name, password and enter their information, attach a picture of
themselves, etc. 

 

We'd like them to be able to list the email addresses of the people who
they want to write recommendations for them.

 

The system would then send out a link to those people. They would click
the link, and be able to type a recommendation for that person (or...not
a major requirement... post an attachment of the recommendation letter).

 

That submission would then be included in the applicant's online profile
so those here reviewing applications could read the recommendations and
all other information. 

 

Does anyone know of an open source system or mods\plugins for open
source CMSs that have this functionality or functionality close enough
to be used for this application process?
