[itdiscuss] Office 2007 Compatibility Pack

We have been rolling out the compatibility pack for those users we don't
have O2k7 licenses for yet. I have a generic local admin runas script I
use which I wrote with AutoIT, which when I want to allow a user to
install something I just open the script, change the name and path to
match the desired exe and then compile it to an encrypted EXE. All users
with the pack have installed it themselves using this method. None of
them seem to have had any issues with the pack after install.

The GPO method is also a great way to push it out. I just happened to
have that script handy and only a few of our users needed it. So I
didn't go with the GPO route.

If you'd like the script I can send it to you. Its very handy for any
number of things you need to run as admin for but don't want your runas
script in plain text.

When you install it on a machine it creates an MSI in C:\program
files\MSECache\02007cnv\1033\ called O12Conv.msi. You can copy that to
an accessible share and deploy to computers via GPO.

Subject: [itdiscuss] Office 2007 Compatibility Pack

Most of our users are still on Office 2003. I've installed the Office
2007 Compatibility Pack on their PCs. However, some of the computers
don't recognize the installation when a user goes to open an Office 2007
document. Is this compatibility pack profile based? If so, do I have
to give them admin priv to install it again under their account?

Any help you can give is much appreciated.

Thanks,
