They didn't have another version installed. I plan to put install
Firefox and see if that works.

I haven't tried changing compatibility mode, but I'll give it a try.
What changes does compatibility mode make?

So have you tried any other browser to see if it were browser related?
Have you attempted to put IE8 into compatibility mode?

Check to make sure there isn't a browser plug-in preventing it from
connecting.

Subject: [itdiscuss] Vista Problem

For those who understand Vista I have a tough problem for you. Last
night I was helping my neighbor with his HP Pavilion which has Vista
Home Premium on it. When we try to browse the Internet with IE8, it
simply would not connect. Here is the chain of events that led up to
this problem:

1. They use Charter Internet.

2. I helped them download and install the Charter Security
product, which they are entitled to as Charter customers.

3. The install went fine but it would not validate, (via the
Internet connection).

4. They attempted to get assistance from Charter support, but all
they were instructed to do was to uninstall and reinstall.

5. The product still would not validate, (via the Internet
connection).

6. Last night I uninstalled the program.

7. I then attempted to browse the Internet with IE but it would
not connect.

a. I was able to ping google.com, with no problem.

b. I was able to do an RDP connection to my office using Remote
Desktop Connection.

c. Windows was able to download automatic Windows updates in the
background.

d. I uninstalled the NIC and reinstalled it again.

8. I know they are connected to the Internet. IE just won't
connect.

There you have it. I looked all through the IE settings and could not
find anything that would indicate why the IE traffic seems to be
"redirected" away from the network connection.

Any ideas?
