[itdiscuss] website CMS

We are using Joomla CMS for our church sites. It is fairly easy for the
staff and small group leaders to change their content and enter events into
the calendars. I built the sites from a stale HTML site that was only
updated about 1 time a month, and now we are getting daily / weekly updates
from the staff members. They are thrilled to be able to change whatever they
need on their pages when they want, and not have to wait for the
webmaster/graphic designer/bulletin/communications person to have the time
to do so. Need help, just let me know.

We use TYPO3, which is powerful, but it's not for the faint of heart....

Subject: [itdiscuss] website cms

Hi all,

I am looking for a new cms for our website. I am currently looking at
ekklesia360, faithnetwork, clover and a couple others. Anyone have any
recommendations or feedback? We can host it ourselves or are open to
hosting elsewhere. I'm a bit out of my skill set here so any help would
be great.

Thanks.

Ian -

with the many things that Web Empowered Church has done - I think
folks should take a look @ it.
www.WebEmpoweredChurch.com

VineHosting - which I am part of is now hosting over 400 churches and
ministries on this platform -
From as small as 20 folks to as large as 12,000 in attendance.
The majority have zero technical staff or skill.

If someone would like a walkthrough - please let us know.

The Web Empowered Church software is free - and includes all of the
following ministry tools:

(listed in detail here: http://webempoweredchurch.com/extensions/ )

Current Ministry Tools

Discussion Forum
The Discussion Forum extension allows you to create a simplified
forum, blog (web log), or comment system on your website. The
Discussion Forum is designed for one main topic on one page only.
eBible
The WEC eBible extension automatically converts scripture references
anywhere in your website to the full scripture text.
Flash Player
The WEC Flash Player extension plays either MP3-formatted audio files
or FLV-formatted video files inside a web browser.
Flash Presentation
The WEC Flash Presentation extension displays an audio or video
presentation that includes multiple individual charts that are
displayed at the appropriate time in the presentation.
Map
The WEC Map extension displays a Google map with markers that show a
few locations such as your church and youth center, or the map can
display all or a group of frontend users.
Prayer Connector
The WEC Prayer Connector extension implements a connector community. A
connector community is designed to help people that have a need or
service find people who can address that need or use that service.
Servant Matcher
The WEC Servant Matcher is a great way to connect people to service
opportunities. Specifically, this extension was created for churches or
ministries to connect members and attenders to ministry service
opportunities.
Sermons Management System
The Sermon Management System, or SMS for short, provides a streamlined
process for making sermon resources available online, and allows your
audience to view the sermon information in many different ways.
Staff Directory
The Staff Directory is an extension that will enable organizations the
ability to display information about their staff members on their
website.
Devotional Journal
The WEC Devotional Journal extension implements a devotional with a
private personal journal for each user. - This tool however takes a
lot of work to use - visit www.mytj.org for a demonstration.

A few of the churches using WEC are as follows:

www.cor.org - ian referenced this one.
http://www.gego-bremen.de/
http://www.4fbc.org/
http://www.jaxgrace.org/
http://www.heartchurch.com/
http://www.irvingbible.org/
http://www.stonebriar.org

We are constantly in development - and the software is free - Open
Source - which allows you to work on it yourself if ever needed - and
choose hosting anywhere.
Vine - we offer plans as cheap as $25/mo

Elaxio and others - they are great tools - but the cost on many that
have the specific ministry tools - well they are expensive.

Hope that helps

I like Joomla http://www.joomla.org/

It's free, easy to use (of course that is my opinion), a massive user
community with many useful addons (a lot of them free as well), a large
number of templates available to choose from frommany different vendors
(and many free ones) and most webhosts I've seen will run it. Some
webhosts even offer it as a service without you having to manually
install it. You just go to your webhost's control panel and choose it
from list. Of course, depending on the scope of your site, you may want
something a little beefier than a standard webhosting account.
