[itdiscuss] [ Suspected Spam ] Anti-Virus

This company was using Symantec when I came here a year ago. I long ago
got fed up with Norton/Symantec, however I can't say that I think it has
done a bad job here. We use their BrightMail Spam filter and it seems to
do a good job. I also have a Sonic Wall firewall that does content
filtering as well so I am double covered in that area. Symantec doesn't
have the most user friendly interface though, and the client seems to
mysteriously uninstall itself from time to time. Haven't found the cause
of that yet.

We became so displeased with Symantec AV over the past couple of years
that we are switching ALL of our clients to AVG. AVG has been doing a
fantastic job and the management interface is fully tied into our
monitoring/alerting/management/reporting system we use as part of our
Managed IT Services offering. We dumped Symantec AV after more than 20
years of loyalty because it was failing to detect and stop viruses and
Trojans that all of the other major vendors had known about many months
prior. It was also become so bloated that it made older PCs run very
slowly.

Thanks,

I noticed that one subscriber suggested AVG antivirus but I haven't

heard anyone else mention it since. I have used the home version of AVG

for years and have been very pleased with it. I have no experience with

the corporate version but would suspect it to be as good a product.

Anyone else used the corporate version before? On our front we are

currently using Symantec but are looking at McAfee for future use.

to manage to do that...

I think VIPRE is terrific! In my new position we're using MS Forefront.

Too much is still slipping through, it's cumbersome to manage and to

pull meaningful reports. VIPRE is much from admin-friendly and has I

saw no infections on either the church or workplace network - can't say

that about Forefront. You can ask for and probably get home use

licenses as well. $10/seat - no brainer.

Roger,

Are you still happy with VIPRE? Are the any others using VIPRE

currently? We have McAfee and are potentially looking at switch this

month.

If you contact Matt Biden at TLIC (www.everythingmaintenance.com) he can

probably get you set up for close to that price range. I just switched

from McAfee to VIPRE a month ago on my 185-node work network. And my

church received comparable pricing direct from Sunbelt last fall. If

you ask real nicely you may even get licenses for your users to install

on their home machines. Contact Bryan Berger

[BryanB at sunbelt-software.com] for more info.

In any case, you can download the 30-day trial for VIPRE Enterprise from

Sunbelt Software's site and give it a try.

Thank you. About 30 clients right now. We have a lot of Macs on our

network that are protected already so these are just Windows machines.

That's not a bad price.

Hey all,

Any suggestions for good free AV software? We are thinking about doing

away with our active directory server and our domain, and we currently

have AVG with a client/server installation.

How would I go about getting a home license as well? A couple of you

have mentioned that...
