[itdiscuss] 64-bit computing

I am writing this on a Dell Precision T5400 with 16 GB of RAM with XP
Pro 64X which is based on Win2003 server. The advantages for me are the
much greater amount of RAM that can be used for such things as
virtualization or just really large applications. I use my workstation
for testing new virtualized operating systems, servers, etc. without
having to find a "box" to run them on. My experience is that the X64
architecture has a very slight speed advantage but can address gobs of
RAM.

Subject: [itdiscuss] 64-bit computing

What is everyone's experience with 64-bit computing on a workstation? I
have stayed away from 64-bit workstations in the past to avoid
compatibility issues; but I am noticing far more 64-bit systems being
sold today, leading me to wonder if 64-bit has become more mainstream
recently. What's your take on 64-bit computing for your users'
computers?
