[itdiscuss] organizing pictures

Hi Darin:
I can't speak to specific software for helping organize/manage pictures,
but your comment re: RAID 1 might need clarification. RAID 1 = mirrored
drives. If you delete an item, it's gone, because each drive is an
exact mirror of the other. There are plenty of software recovery
programs out there that can "undelete" something that's been
inadvertently removed, but it might be just as simple to invest in an
external storage solution. 1TB of storage is very cheap these days and
could serve as a means to perform a daily/weekly backup of the important
data stored on the mirrored drives and carry offsite.
Just my $.02 and hope this helps.
Peace,
Lou

Subject: [itdiscuss] organizing pictures
I have a funny dilemma that I want some other ideas on. Our
church has a photo team. What we're doing now seems to be crazy;
pictures are taken and stored on a certain computer, and organized in
Windows via folder hierarchy, by date, event, etc... It takes a lot of
work to sort the photos, and for backup, what they've been doing is just
copying that folder to an external hard drive. The only good thing is
that the pictures are being backed up, and if we need a picture that has
been deleted, we can simply restore. There are a lot of things I don't
like, such as the time it takes to organize them, and the fact that
there's a 'to organize' folder that we just backup as well. I was
thinking of just setting up a RAID 1 for them, but their fear is that if
they delete one picture it's gone from both drives...but the chances of
that happening aren't very likely.
