[itdiscuss] Bad spots on Raid 5 array

It's on a Dell Powervault 220 NAS. I have the 7 drive divided with a
raid of 4 drives and a raid of 3. It's on a Perc 3DC and I have Dell's
array manager on the server, but I don't see anything in there that
would help me. I can run the boot up check out, but obviously want
something that is non-destructive.

I was kinda hoping for a magic utility that would go out and look at it
and tell me everything J

What is your RAID controller? I know the 3WARE controller has a Verify
program that validates the integrity of the raid and it runs it on a
weekly schedule and sends me email on the results.

I have a 3 drive Raid 5 array that has developed bad spots a couple of
time in the last 2 weeks. In each instance chkdsk has been able to
repair. My question is, how can I figure out which physical drive has
had these spots?

The only way I have found out is when a user can't access his data or
when the nightly backup fails on a file. I do receive an Event ID 55 in
the system event viewer when the error occurs, but all that event say is
to run chkdsk.

Thanks,
